NVRF 2025 – First Day – TPA

Nene Valley Rock Festival celebrated its third year at Grimsthorpe Castle in Bourne, a festival that had garnered positive reviews in the past but still left me anticipating the experience for myself. The days leading up to the event were filled with unpredictable weather forecasts, ranging from stormy rain to radiant sunshine, typical of an English summer. Prepared for the worst but hoping for the best, I embarked on my journey.

As I approached the event grounds on Thursday morning, a sudden downpour reminded me of a tropical storm I had experienced in the Philippines, but it quickly dissipated, giving way to sunshine. Meeting up with friends at a nearby AirBnB, our entrance onto the festival grounds offered a breathtaking view of the impressive Grimsthorpe Castle, a stately home that exuded elegance and grandeur. Positioned by a serene lake, the setting provided a picturesque backdrop for festival-goers to unwind and enjoy the music.

Exploring the venue before the crowds arrived, I found all the essential elements of a music festival – beer, food stalls, merchandise, and more. I had arranged several artist interviews in advance, allowing me to connect with the talented individuals who would grace the festival stages. The first interview of the day was with Erin Bennett, the lead vocalist and guitarist of EBB, who shared her musical journey from Alabama to Scotland and her eclectic musical influences, spanning from The Carpenters to King Crimson.

Chatting with Tom Morris from Argham, who I spontaneously stumbled upon, revealed his musical beginnings in a school choir and his admiration for British pastoral music. As we discussed his diverse musical genres and thoughts on progressive rock, it became evident that his passion for music transcended mere genres and styles. These impromptu conversations added depth to my festival experience, showcasing the diverse talent and inspirations present at NVRF.

As the festival gates opened and crowds streamed in, the vibrant energy of music enthusiasts filled the air, setting the stage for a weekend of musical magic and camaraderie. The serene beauty of Grimsthorpe Castle combined with the passionate performances of artists like EBB and Argham created a memorable experience that encapsulated the spirit of Nene Valley Rock Festival. With the promise of more interviews, performances, and surprises in the days to come, NVRF 2025 kicked off with an unforgettable start, leaving me eager for what the rest of the festival had in store.
