Darcy Piltz Releases New Pop-Punk Anthem “Wishing Your Life Away”
Recently, Central Coast alt-rock artist Darcy Piltz unleashed his latest creation, ‘Wishing Your Life Away,’ a high-powered pop-punk piece infused with grunge elements that encapsulates the frenetic spirit of navigating one’s twenties. If you find solace in the raw, impactful sound of Australian bands such as Dear Seattle, Luca Brasi, and Sly Withers, this track is a must-listen that will have you hitting the replay button.
With an abundance of crunchy, unforgettable guitar riffs and a remarkably fervent vocal delivery, Darcy, the mastermind behind every element of the song’s creation, bares his soul through his musical craft. Delving into poignant, emotionally charged lyrics, the song resonates deeply with individuals struggling to keep pace with the rapid currents of contemporary life.
Delving into the core theme of the track, Darcy delves into the essence of being in one’s twenties: “This track really hones in on being in your 20’s. Everything feels crazy and chaotic; people are having kids and buying houses, others are really just getting started on their own story. It’s about working those shit jobs to try and make money to do the things you want. At it’s core, this song is about trying to be present and appreciate what you’ve achieved so far, before immediately trying to chase the next ‘thing’. Feels like a bit of a ‘note to self’ to remember what it’s all about and trying not to get caught up in the rush.”
As a self-taught musician proficient in multiple instruments, Darcy took this track from the confines of his home studio to the realm of professionals, collaborating with Toby Wells at Sonara Studios for recording and mixing, while enlisting Jack Nigro for mastering duties (recognized for his work with Rum Jungle and Vacations). For Darcy, the immersive studio experience and expert guidance were crucial in shaping the track’s final, impactful sound.
Reflecting on the creative process, Darcy shared, “Wishing Your Life Away came about super easily. I wrote and recorded everything you hear on this one (same as all my other songs)… Most of the time, I’m writing about things I’ve felt or things I’ve seen others go through, and this one was the same. Once the lyrics were fleshed out, I jumped straight onto doing the demo as I felt something special was in this song. The drums probably took me the longest to work out as I wanted to get them perfect, and I think taking the time to figure them out really paid off. After sending Toby (producer/mixer) the world’s shittiest demo of the track, we jumped into Sonora Studios and pumped it out in one day and everything went smooth as butter. Luckily Toby saw the vision, and he crushed it with the production and mix. Doing it all myself can sometimes be stressful but Sonora Studios is starting to feel like home!”
Having established a solid reputation supporting acclaimed Central Coast acts like Fool Nelson and Gully Days, Darcy Piltz is now gearing up for a series of live performances, including a show supporting Great Job! at The Lin and Pin in Woy Woy on October 24th and a dedicated single launch event at Six Strings Brewery in the Central Coast on November 29th. If you crave authentic, anthemic alt-rock vibes with a pop-punk edge, Darcy Piltz is the artist you’ve been searching for.
