Barbaras release their second album, “Rollercoasters”
The second album by The Barbaras, titled “Rollercoasters,” was released by sisters Sallie and Weezy Ford back in August. Bringing together genres like country, folk, and swing, the album features a dozen songs filled with unique musical influences.
The Ford sisters each made their way to Portland separately, coming from Asheville, North Carolina; Sallie arrived in 2006, and Weezy joined in 2012. Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside, a band known for their popularity in Portland during the early 2010s, disbanded in 2013, reuniting briefly in 2018. On the other hand, Weezy Ford forged a successful solo career with albums such as “Sugarcane” and “In the Movement.” Eventually, in 2016, the two sisters came together to form a band after pursuing their separate musical paths.
Coming into our radar through performances at the Azkena Rock Festival and as a supporting act for Pokey Lafarge, Sallie Ford captivated audiences with a blend of 50’s Rock’n’Roll, Rockabilly, and hints of Country and Blues in her songs, reminiscent of the raw passion found in the iconic Etta James’s voice.
