Newly acquired video footage reveals what appears to be the moment that the suspect in the Brown University shooting incident left the campus following the tragic events in December. The man in question, Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, aged 48, seems to be captured in a dash camera video taken from a shuttle vehicle on December 13 during twilight, strolling through a parking lot next to Barus and Holley, the building that houses the physics department of the university in Providence, Rhode Island.
His right hand is seen inside his pocket as he proceeds to cross Hope Street, heading towards a residential neighborhood. This dash camera footage is believed by officials to depict the suspect and was reportedly recorded right after the shooting incident took place. The video was disclosed following a public records request made by ABC News, though authorities are currently unwilling to release many other records related to the incident response.
Neves Valente, a former graduate student at Brown University, is suspected of carrying out the shooting, seemingly driven by a long-standing grudge. Reports suggest that Neves Valente fatally shot students, Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov and Ella Cook during a final exam review session, while injuring nine others. Following the shooting, the suspect allegedly traveled to the Boston suburbs where he killed Nuno Loureiro, a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, near his residence in Brookline.
Neves Valente then crossed the state border into New Hampshire and took his own life at a self-storage facility, a few yards beyond the state line, as law enforcement officials tried to arrest him. The footage recorded by the shuttle bus was specifically mentioned in a criminal affidavit against Neves Valente by the Providence Police, indicating that the captured events occurred immediately after the shooting at 16:03. Interestingly, the video footage suggests that the tragic inside events were not apparent to individuals outside the academic building, as pedestrians are observed walking nearby casually.
Furthermore, a Brown University police car can be seen parked on the curb, with another police vehicle driving down Hope Street approximately 25 seconds after the suspect fled the scene, its blue emergency lights flashing. This newly obtained video footage sheds light on the immediate aftermath of the tragic incident that occurred inside the university campus, providing a glimpse into the sequence of events as they unfolded.
