Angel, a 70s rock band, plans farewell tour and new album in the works
A 1970s rock band has recently announced its plans for a farewell tour, which might also involve the release of new music. Angel, the glam rock band that was discovered by Gene Simmons and signed to KISS’s record label, disclosed the initial venues for their final performances. Among these are shows scheduled for March 27 at the Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville, Illinois, and August 7 at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood. More dates for the farewell tour are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
The current lineup of Angel comprises original lead vocalist Frank DiMino and lead guitarist Edwin “Punky” Meadows, who rejoined forces back in 2018. They are joined by rhythm guitarist Danny Farrow, keyboardist Charlie Calv, drummer Billy Orrico, and bassist Tommy Caradonna. Angel had initially released five albums during the ’70s before disbanding in 1981. Their notable tracks include a rendition of the Young Rascals’ “Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore” from the album “White Heat” in 1978, along with hits like “Tower,” “The Winter Song,” and “Rock & Rollers.” The band developed a devoted following due to their unique blend of glam rock, hard rock, and progressive rock music, as well as their energetic live performances and distinctive white satin outfits that set them apart from the all-black costumes of KISS.
The iconic ambigram logo of Angel, which remains legible even when flipped upside down, is another defining characteristic of the band. Fan reactions to the farewell tour announcement have been mixed, with one individual expressing both excitement and sadness at the news. Despite the bittersweet nature of the farewell journey, fans are eager to show their unwavering support to the band that has brought them so much joy over the years. Since their reunion, DiMino and Meadows have released two albums under the Angel name – “Risen” in 2019 and “Once Upon a Time” in 2023. In response to inquiries from fans about future music releases, the band has confirmed that they are indeed working on a new album, though details regarding a release date and the album title remain undisclosed.
Several former members of Angel, such as Ricky Phillips, Gregg Giuffria, and Dennis Frederiksen, have taken part in other successful musical projects over the years. Speculation is rife among fans regarding potential surprise appearances by these ex-bandmates during the farewell tour. DiMino spoke about the unexpected reunion with Meadows and their decision to reignite the band’s flame, emphasizing that it all simply fell into place. To stay updated on ticket sales and additional concert announcements, fans are encouraged to visit the official Angel website regularly. The anticipation is palpable as more tour dates, currently labeled as “TBA,” are expected to be unveiled soon.
