Jacksonville offensive coordinator Grant Udinski being considered for Cleveland Browns head coaching position

fensive coordinator Grant Udinski has recently been interviewed by the Cleveland Browns for the vacant head coaching position. Udinski, at 30 years old, just finished his inaugural season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite head coach Liam Coen calling the offensive plays, Udinski oversaw an offense that ranked sixth in the league in scoring, averaging 27.9 points per game, and 11th in total offense with 337.4 points per game. The Jaguars had a successful season, going 13-4 and clinching the AFC South title for the first time since 2022. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence had a standout performance, accounting for a total of 38 touchdowns – 29 passing and 9 rushing. Unfortunately, the Jaguars were eliminated by Buffalo in the wild card round.

Udinski’s NFL coaching career began as a coaching assistant with the Carolina Panthers from 2020 to 2021 before spending three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings from 2022 to 2024. In 2022, he worked as an assistant to the head coach in special projects and got promoted to assistant offensive coordinator and assistant quarterbacks coach in 2024.

The Cleveland Browns are the only team thus far to have expressed interest in Udinski, who is seeking a head coach following the dismissal of Kevin Stefanski on January 5 after a six-season stint and an overall record of 46-58. Stefanski, a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year, had successfully led the Browns to the playoffs in 2020 and 2023.

The Browns have been actively interviewing candidates for the head coaching position, with Udinski being one of the candidates this past week. Among the other candidates interviewed include former Miami head coach Mike McDaniel, Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Seattle defensive coordinator Aden Durde, Cincinnati offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher, and Baltimore offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

As the coaching search continues, it remains to be seen who will fill the pivotal role of head coach for the Cleveland Browns. With a competitive selection of candidates, the Browns are exploring their options to find the best fit for the team’s future success in the NFL.
