Band with Nuu-chah-nulth ties to tour in support of new album

The Melawmen Collective has recently launched their debut album and are preparing for a series of live performances in various towns. Hailing from Ashcroft, British Columbia, the group describes their musical style as a blend of contemporary Indigenous fusion with elements of hip hop, rock/blues, country, global beats, righteous rhymes, and rich harmonies. Meeka Morgan and Kiva Morgan-Hall, both vocalists of the group, have roots in the Secwepemc and Nuu-chah-nulth-aht from Toquaht First Nation.

Their album, titled “Fire in the Lake,” was officially released on September 26, 2025. Described as an energetic cross-genre concept album, the band states that it is a musical narrative of their personal journey and reflections. The album aims to provide a collective experience for listeners and resonate with themes of connection and shared human experiences.

Embarking on a promotional tour, the Melawmen Group will kick off their performances on Vancouver Island, with the first stop in Ucluelet. Subsequent shows are scheduled in Port Alberni, Victoria, and Duncan before they return to the mainland for more performances. The tour will feature a special opening act by Kiva MH, a young hip hop artist, and will showcase the diverse talents of musicians from Secwepemc, Cree, and Tsilhqot’in First Nations, as well as their drummer from Chile, Victor Laso, and John MacArthur Ellis, a B.C. Country Music Association Hall of Fame inductee.
