Boxer Rebellion Releases ‘Satellite Above’ before Album and Tour
Transatlantic indie rock band The Boxer Rebellion has recently released their newest single, Satellite Above, as a preview of their upcoming album, The Second I’m Asleep, set to be released on 27th March. The band delves into the issues surrounding modern digital life in this song, exploring concepts of surveillance, comparison, and distraction that are brought about by the incessant connectivity of the online world. Satellite Above features fluid bass grooves and anthemic refrains, blending introspective lyricism with the band’s characteristic cinematic indie sound.
Frontman Nathan Nicholson provides insight into the message behind the song, describing it as a commentary on life in a society where constant observation has become the norm. He discusses how individuals are constantly monitored, observed, and living for the entertainment and curiosity of others, leading to a cycle of envy as people measure their lives against others. The band’s latest track, Satellite Above, follows the release of previous singles Hidden Meanings and Flowers In The Water, all of which serve as a reintroduction to their emotive sound ahead of their first album in six years.
The Second I’m Asleep, the group’s seventh studio album, is a reflection of their exploration of themes such as sensory overload, self-reflection, and the calm that comes after chaos. The record was created during a period of intense writing and was produced with the assistance of engineers Rees Broomfield, Billy Bush, and Kevin Grainger. To coincide with the album’s launch, The Boxer Rebellion will be embarking on a UK and European tour in March, culminating in a show at Electric Brixton in London. Due to guitarist Andrew Smith’s injury, Charlie Barnes of Bastille will step in for touring duties.
Established in 2001, The Boxer Rebellion has cultivated a dedicated global following with their atmospheric songwriting and independent approach to music. Their tracks have been featured in various films and television shows, contributing to their reputation for creating expansive and emotionally captivating compositions. After a brief hiatus, the band made a comeback in 2023 and have since been reconnecting with fans through live performances, including a notable appearance at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands.
As The Boxer Rebellion prepares to release their new album and hit the road for their tour, Satellite Above signifies a band that is both contemplative and revitalized. They continue to confront the noise of modern life while refining their immersive, widescreen sound. With upcoming shows in the UK and Ireland, including a headline gig at Electric Brixton, fans can expect an emotive and atmospheric experience from one of indie rock’s most compelling acts.
