Local musician from Point Reyes Station releases new album
Music has always been a form of expression for Colin Schlitt, a multi-instrumentalist from Point Reyes Station. His songwriting process often begins in a realm of nonsensical sounds and syllables, creating a foundation for melodies before real lyrics take shape. He adopted this method from a fellow bandmate in El Radio Fantastique, drawing inspiration from legends like Paul McCartney, who famously started with “Scrambled Eggs” before evolving into “Yesterday.”
Mr. Schlitt recently unveiled his newest album under his solo project, Peppermint Moon, paying homage to the iconic “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” by The Beatles. Titled “The Flipside,” the sophomore record showcases a melodic blend of psychedelic dream-pop tracks, where Mr. Schlitt serves as the chief architect, lending his skills as a songwriter, instrumentalist, singer, and producer. In his bedroom studio on his childhood property, the 56-year-old educator meticulously constructs each song, layering synthesized drum beats, bass lines, and reverberating guitars under his ethereal vocals.
