Concert Review: Filter with AnimaL ioN at Tally Ho Theater on May 13, 2026

Filter recently performed at the Tally Ho Theater on May 13, 2026, as part of their tour with Tim Montana and Alter Bridge; however, this show was unique as it featured a local opening act, AnimaL ioN, from Washington DC.

AnimaL ioN took the stage first, showcasing their impressive hard rock skills and setting the tone for the evening. Filter then graced the stage with their heavy industrial rock sound, kicking off the set with “You Walk Away” from their 2002 album, The Amalgamut. The band maintained a relentless and heavy energy for the first few songs before founder and singer Richard Patrick decided to switch things up.

Amidst the intense music, Patrick paused to ask the audience if they were ready for something different. It was time for a break from the heavy tunes, leading into one of Filter’s biggest hits, “Take A Picture.” Despite years of screaming, Richard’s vocals remained strong and captivating throughout the performance.

The atmosphere on stage was set with moody lighting, maintaining a dark and foggy ambiance throughout the set. The use of greens and blues, along with a Matrix-inspired screen behind the band, added to the overall aesthetic and vibe of the performance.

Throughout the night, Filter kept the energy high, with bassist Bobby Miller visibly enjoying himself on stage, guitarist Jonny Radtke exuding coolness, and drummer Elias Mallin bringing relentless energy to the performance. The band delivered a mix of classic hits like “Jurassitol” and “Dose,” along with a preview of new material with the debut of “Snakes In The Grass” from their upcoming album.

Filter treated the audience to a total of 16 songs, concluding with their iconic track, “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” which gained them recognition and success early in their career. The band opted for a unique approach to the encore, choosing to stay on stage and deliver the final song without the customary exit and return.

Having seen Filter perform previously, it was clear that they are a band worth experiencing live whenever possible. Their engaging stage presence, powerful music, and ability to connect with the audience make their performances a must-see for fans.
