Kelela, the renowned club and R&B innovator, is set to unveil her latest album, “new avatar,” next month, and from what I’ve heard, it’s not just shaping up to be exceptional – it truly is. If you’ve been following the album’s release, you’re probably already aware of the excitement surrounding it.

Having already previewed tracks like “idea 1,” “linknb,” and “point blank” from “new avatar,” Kelela has also collaborated with talented artists such as PinkPantheress and Fousheé for this project. Today, she unveils “outta time,” her latest creation in collaboration with A. K. Paul, best known as Jai Paul’s brother and a creative force behind the Paul Institute. Together, Kelela and A. K. Paul wrote and produced “Outta Time,” a dreamy, slow-paced track that exudes an ’80s studio-rock vibe. Paul’s melodic guitar work, reminiscent of Mk.gee and Adam Granduciel, beautifully complements Kelela’s smooth vocals. Kelela reflected on the track’s origin, stating, “I made it in 2016 during the period when I was writing for Take Me Apart. I sat with that song for so long, and it’s literally untouched. I waited because I needed to build a house for this song that gives its sound more context.” The accompanying minimalist visual directed by Ryosuke Tanzawa perfectly captures the essence of the song.

Kelela’s highly anticipated album, “new avatar,” is scheduled for release on 7/10 via Warp Records. Be sure to mark your calendars for what promises to be a remarkable musical journey that showcases Kelela’s artistic evolution and creativity.
