Tom Morello has made the difficult decision to cancel two scheduled performances in Europe due to his mother’s recent health issues. In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, the iconic guitarist expressed his need to return to the United States urgently to support his beloved 102-year-old mother, Mary Morello.

Opening up to his fans and followers, Morello shared, “Dear friends, fans, and comrades, my dear mom, Mary Morello is back in the hospital, and I’m headed home to help look after her.” Reflecting on the joy of rocking out with audiences in the UK and Europe, Morello expressed his eagerness to return and continue the passionate movement they had all started together. Ending his message with words of love, unity, and strength, the artist’s decision to prioritize his family over his professional commitments was evident.

Originally scheduled to perform at the Tons Of Rock Festival in Oslo, Norway, and the BBK Music Legends Festival in Bilbao, Spain over the upcoming weekend, Morello’s unexpected departure undoubtedly left fans disappointed. However, the musician’s dedication to his family’s well-being was unwavering, prompting him to cancel previous engagements to provide his mother with the care she needed.

Earlier this month, Morello withdrew from planned performances in London and Paris, although he did make an appearance at the Pinkpop festival in the Netherlands. Acknowledging the impact of his absence, Morello expressed regret, stating, “I am sorry I had to miss a few shows due to my mom’s health.” Grateful for his mother Mary’s remarkable resilience and spirit, the artist shared, “The incredibly resilient, indefatigable Mary Morello at 102 is now feeling somewhat better and has ordered me back into the fray, charging me with rocking you and fighting fascism six strings at a time.”

While Morello did not specify a return date for his performances, his unwavering commitment to family values and support for his mother during her time of need were evident. Mary Morello, a former teacher and activist, also played a significant role in co-founding the anti-censorship group, Parents for Rock and Rap, in the late ’80s.

As fans eagerly await Morello’s return to the stage, the musician’s decision to prioritize his mother’s health and well-being serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of family and the significance of providing support to loved ones in times of need. Morello’s decision exemplifies the timeless values of love, unity, resilience, and familial support that transcend boundaries and resonate deeply with fans and followers worldwide.
