Festival Review: Tons Of Rock 2026 Day 1 in Oslo, Norway on June 24th, 2026

This year marked my tenth visit to the Tons of Rock Festival in Norway, an event that I always look forward to each year. The festival has evolved over time, moving from Halden to Oslo in recent years. Despite the changes, the festival maintains its appeal, drawing in a daily crowd of 37,500 people and around 150,000 across the four days.

As I made my way to the festival grounds, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to escape the impending heatwave in London. The festival’s well-organized transportation system made the journey hassle-free, dropping us off right at the entrance. Meeting up with my friend Andrea, we kicked off our day by enjoying a hearty breakfast and checking into our hotel.

The day’s lineup kicked off with Black Debbath, a staple opening act at the festival with their satirical songs. Die Spitz in the Moonlight took the stage next, capturing the audience with their high-energy performance. Moving on to the Vampire Stage for Cavalera Conspiracy’s Chaos A.D. set, the crowd was thrilled by their presence and musical talents.

A new addition to this year’s festival was The Swamp stage, featuring surprise mini-concerts announced only 15 minutes beforehand. This unique setup added a sense of anticipation as attendees wandered past the stage. Bands like Nedgravd delivered an intense performance, showcasing their metal skills to a captivated audience.

A slight hiccup occurred when a power outage affected the festival area, causing a temporary delay in performances. Despite the setback, the crowd remained enthusiastic, even starting a classic Norwegian row to pass the time. Trivium’s performance on the main stage brought a sense of excitement, with the crowd eagerly participating in the show.

After a brief interlude for Babymetal’s set, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that photography was permitted. This unexpected opportunity allowed me to capture the energy and spectacle of their performance from a unique perspective. As the day came to a close, I reflected on the whirlwind of experiences and the joy of discovering new bands and reconnecting with festival traditions.

In conclusion, the first day of Tons of Rock Festival offered a diverse lineup of talent, engaging performances, and unexpected surprises. As I wrapped up the day’s events, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in the world of rock music and create lasting memories with friends and fellow music enthusiasts. This year’s festival proved once again why it holds a special place in my heart and why I continue to return year after year.
