Zohar Ginzburg set to perform at Hamagber Festival
Zohar Ginzburg, also known as Zozo, demonstrates versatility in her music style, showcasing both edgier rock tracks and softer “poppy” sounds. Although primarily performing in English throughout her career, she will incorporate material in Hebrew and English in her upcoming performance at the Hamagber Festival. Set to take place at the Enav Center in Tel Aviv from February 4 to 8, the festival boasts an impressive lineup of prominent rock-pop artists, including Aviv Guedj, Daniella Spektor, Amir Lev, Geva Alon, and Alon Eder. Joining Ginzburg on stage will be singer-songwriter Rona Kenan and her quintet, creating a dynamic blend of energetic rock and meaningful lyrics.
A notable inclusion in Ginzburg’s setlist is her latest single, “Einayim Kechulot” (“Blue Eyes”), to be featured on her upcoming Hebrew-language album scheduled for release in the summer. This ballad showcases a softer, more melodic side of Ginzburg’s musical repertoire, hinting at a potential departure from her traditional raw and intense delivery. While her music contains elements reminiscent of punk rock’s bold statements and heavy metal aesthetics, there is an underlying softness in her melodious compositions that captivates listeners.
Reflecting on her artistic evolution, Ginzburg reveals her newfound appreciation for acoustic guitar, a departure from her previous preference for electric guitar. She describes the unique sound of “Einayim Kechulot” as reflective of a new direction in her music, emphasizing intimacy and a fresh sonic experience. Despite her affinity for loud, rock-infused tracks, she acknowledges the importance of incorporating melodic, ear-catching elements in her compositions to maintain a balance between intensity and accessibility.
Ginzburg’s creative process often begins with acoustic renditions in her living room, highlighting her ability to seamlessly transition between the acoustic and electric worlds. While she remains rooted in the realm of rock and roll, punk, and post-punk influences, she emphasizes the significance of melodic harmonies in her music. Drawing inspiration from iconic bands like Pixies and Led Zeppelin, Ginzburg aims to infuse her music with catchy melodies while retaining an element of grit and authenticity.
As she prepares to grace the stage at the Hamagber Festival alongside esteemed musicians, Ginzburg’s performance promises to deliver a captivating fusion of rock energy and emotional depth. With her evolving musical style and commitment to exploring new artistic directions, Zohar Ginzburg continues to captivate audiences with her dynamic and heartfelt compositions.
