Deluxe box set of Jimi Hendrix Experience’s ‘Axis: Bold As Love’ to be released
Jimi Hendrix is set to receive a deluxe box set treatment for his second album, “Axis: Bold As Love,” on November 7. The reissue will include the original album in both mono and stereo mixes, as well as an additional 40 bonus tracks. These bonus tracks consist of alternative versions of songs, unreleased studio takes, demos, live tracks, and TV performances. Notably, 28 of these tracks have never been heard before and include a demo of “Stone Free/Up From The Skies.”
To enhance the listening experience, the deluxe box set will also feature a Blu-ray with stereo and mono mixes of the album, along with a Dolby Atmos mix created by the album’s original engineer, Eddie Kramer, and engineer Chandler Harrod. Janie Hendrix, president and CEO of Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., emphasized Jimi’s fearless artistic expression, noting that each song and lyric invites listeners to feel and be free. She described Jimi’s music as an unapologetic reflection of his perceptions of the world and the emotions it stirred, with “Bold As Love” serving as a creative embodiment of these sentiments.
According to Hendrix, the “Bold As Love” set effectively reintroduces the depth of Jimi’s musical talent, shining a light on a significant period not only in his career but also in his life. The album, released on December 1, 1967, enjoyed critical and commercial success, peaking at #3 on the Billboard album charts. Featuring iconic tracks like “Little Wing,” “Spanish Castle Magic,” and “Castles Made of Sand,” “Axis: Bold As Love” solidified Jimi Hendrix’s reputation as a legendary guitarist and artist.
The deluxe box set will be available in two formats: a five-LP+Blu-ray set or a four-CD+Blu-ray set.
