Idlewild prepares to release new album with last single ‘Like I Had Before’ – Indie is not a genre

After a prolonged five-year break, Scottish rock band Idlewild is gearing up for the launch of their tenth studio album on October 3rd with a fresh single release. The latest track, “Like I Had Before,” is the third and final offering from their upcoming self-titled record. This melodic anthem stands out as an instant classic, showcasing the band’s rich and diverse musical style. It follows the successful release of “Stay Out of Place,” which garnered widespread international acclaim and secured a spot on the BBC 6 Music playlist, and the emotive ballad “It’s Not The First Time.”

When discussing the new single, Roddy highlighted the power of music to deeply resonate with listeners, expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming album. The album was crafted in 2024 at Post Electric Studios in Edinburgh and the serene Isle of Iona Library in the Hebrides. Produced by guitarist Rod Jones in collaboration with the band, the record showcases the latest evolution of a group that has left an indelible mark on the Scottish rock scene for over thirty years. The album’s creative process mirrors the band’s ongoing quest for fresh inspiration while remaining true to their melodic origins.

Since their establishment in 1995 in Edinburgh, Idlewild has undergone a remarkable evolution. Initially known as a high-energy teenage punk band with raw, frenetic records, they later transformed into one of the most captivating mainstream rock acts of their era. This transformation culminated in their groundbreaking 2002 album, “The Remote Part,” which debuted at number three on the UK charts, trailing only behind Oasis and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

With the imminent release of a new album, Idlewild is gearing up to hit the road. The band has announced a series of in-store and out-store appearances for October, complemented by additional tour dates later in the month.
