Iron Hills Country Music Festival canceled in Birmingham due to difficult decision.
A country music festival planned for Birmingham, the Iron Hills Country Music Festival, has been canceled due to rising costs and lower-than-expected ticket sales. Organizers made the tough decision to call off the event just three weeks before it was scheduled to take place at Sloss Furnaces. The festival, set for October 11-12, boasted a lineup of more than 20 acts, including popular artists like Travis Tritt, Turnpike Troubadours, and Chase Rice.
In an official statement released on the festival’s website, organizers cited the inability to provide fans with the quality experience they deserve as the main reason for the cancellation. The combination of increased production costs and softer demand than anticipated made it financially and operationally unfeasible to proceed with the festival this year. Refunds will be automatically issued to those who purchased tickets through Eventim (formerly SeeTickets.com).
The Iron Hills Country Music Festival was conceptualized by Johnny Grimes, Chad Johnson, and Josh Williams, who are also behind Furnace Fest, a three-day event that highlights heavy rock, thrash, punk, and metal bands in Birmingham. Furnace Fest 2025, scheduled for October 3-5 at Sloss Furnaces, is still set to take place. The festival, a revival of a DIY punk rock event that ran from 2000 to 2003, has been a staple in Birmingham since its return in 2021.
Johnny Grimes, a key figure in Birmingham’s music scene, is known for his role in the purchase, renovation, and revitalization of the concert venue WorkPlay in 2023. Despite the disappointment of canceling the Iron Hills Music Festival, organizers expressed their continued dedication to Birmingham’s music community. They emphasized their commitment to the long-standing sister event, Furnace Fest, which has become a beloved tradition in the city over more than two decades.
With the challenges of hosting two festivals during uncertain economic conditions, organizers had to prioritize the sustainability of Furnace Fest. By stepping back from Iron Hills, they aim to strengthen and preserve Furnace Fest for the years to come, ensuring that the legacy and community it has built in Birmingham can continue to thrive.
Additionally, Iron Hills Productions had planned a hip-hop festival, Magic City Flow Fest, on October 18 at Sloss Furnaces. However, after receiving feedback from concertgoers about the timing of the event conflicting with college football season, the organizers decided to reschedule the festival to May 9, 2026. This adjustment aims to provide the community with the best possible experience and reflects the organizers’ dedication to ensuring successful and enjoyable events for all attendees.
