NMIXX flourishes with their debut full-length album, ‘Blue Valentine’
K-pop girl group NMIXX thrives on embracing change and standing out in the highly competitive music industry. The group, composed of Haewon, Lily, Sullyoon, Bae, Jiwoo, and Kyujin, made their debut in 2022 under JYP Entertainment.
In their nearly four years in the industry, NMIXX has chosen to pave their own path by exploring an array of musical genres rather than following mainstream trends. They bring together multiple genres in their songs, creating a distinctive sound they call MIXX Pop.
With the release of their first full-length album, ‘Blue Valentine,’ NMIXX is drawing inspiration from some of their fan-favorite B-side tracks. The title track of the album, a blend of melancholic pop-rock, highlights the group’s powerful vocals and has gained traction in the Korean music scene. ‘Blue Valentine’ is making its mark on the charts, currently positioned at No. 51 on the Melon top 100 chart.
The album reflects a theme of love, as the members of NMIXX share that it is a compilation of love stories that many can relate to – whether currently experiencing, reminiscing about, or anticipating the journey of love. Leading the discussion about their latest album was Haewon, the group’s 22-year-old leader and main vocalist, who participated in a late-night Zoom conversation with the group from their base in Seoul.
NMIXX spoke candidly with The Hollywood Reporter about their ability to experiment with diverse musical genres and the challenges they face when introducing their music to a global audience.
