The talented Japanese-American rapper MIYACHI has recently unveiled ‘SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK’, a fresh 10-track album released through Mass Appeal on October 17th. By drawing from his diverse background as a native New Yorker and former Tokyo salaryman, the album delves into the challenges of corporate life and the complexities of self-identity, all while intertwining his bilingual roots and unique cross-cultural perspective.

Representing MIYACHI’s inaugural full-length project under NAS’s esteemed US label, ‘SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK’ solidifies his status as the first Japanese music artist to ink a deal with Mass Appeal. His ability to seamlessly blend English and Japanese languages has established him as a pivotal figure bridging the gap between the two distinct hip-hop worlds he effortlessly navigates.

Within ‘SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK’, MIYACHI cleverly channels the frustrations associated with corporate drudgery through a lens of satire and personal encounters. The album seamlessly merges his rap alter ego with his viral YouTube series KONBINI CONFESSIONS, in which he comically interviews pedestrians outside Tokyo’s convenience stores, drink in hand. The raw, unfiltered humor of these encounters directly informs the cynical tone of the album.

Featuring a mix of English-Japanese lyrical wordplay set against trap-infused beats and dashes of wry wit, ‘SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK’ builds upon MIYACHI’s assortment of singles such as ‘HERO’ and ‘DO ME’, the latter a collaboration with Japanese hip-hop luminary AK-69. Across the album’s ten tracks, MIYACHI continues his exploration of societal pressures and individual authenticity with the same sharp humor that defines his KONBINI CONFESSIONS series.

Reflecting on his latest release, MIYACHI expressed that “‘SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK’ encapsulates the struggles of the underdog fighting to forge a path according to their own desires, aspiring to break free from societal norms. This album serves as their anthem to rise and shine.”

Originally named Leon Miyachi Pearl and raised in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, MIYACHI’s upbringing straddled both New York and Japan, eventually leading him to pursue audio engineering studies at Temple University in Philadelphia. Following the success of his breakout single ‘WAKARIMASEN’ in 2018, MIYACHI has collaborated with notable figures such as JAY PARK, Thelma Aoyama, RADWIMPS, and m-flo, cementing his reputation for blending cultural nuances with his trademark humor and self-awareness.

For fans eager to experience ‘SALARYMAN STRIKES BACK’, the album is now available for streaming across all major platforms, accompanied by captivating music videos for singles like ‘DO ME’ (featuring AK-69) and ‘HERO’.
