Headliners backing out leads to cancellation of Boardwalk Rock 2026
The organizer of the Boardwalk Rock music festival had to call off the 2026 event due to the unexpected withdrawal of two major headlining acts, shared Ocean City Tourism and Business Development Director Tom Perlozzo last week. The Town of Ocean City decided to cancel the festival’s second edition until further notice. Despite the disappointment surrounding the cancellation, hopes remain in place for the festival’s comeback in 2027, with the anticipation of securing top-tier entertainment well in advance.
Perlozzo expressed his dismay over the unfortunate circumstances that led to the event cancellation and mentioned that the organization was prepared for the operational aspects of the festival. However, the abrupt departure of two key headliners prompted the decision to cancel the event entirely. The challenge of finding suitable replacements that met the standards of a premier event in Ocean City proved to be insurmountable. Perlozzo refrained from disclosing the identity of the two headliners who withdrew from the 2026 festival, and Tim Sweetwood of C3 Presents was unavailable for comment.
Plans are already underway to reinstate Boardwalk Rock in 2027 with enhanced entertainment offerings, emphasizing that securing top talent takes meticulous planning and coordination, typically spanning 18 months to two years before the actual event. Despite the setback, expectations are high for the festival’s return next year and the promise of a grander and more spectacular comeback than ever before.
The inception of Boardwalk Rock emerged last winter when C3 Presents revealed its plan to introduce a significant music festival to downtown Ocean City in May 2025. This announcement resulted in the rescheduling of traditional events like Springfest and Cruisin’ Ocean City to accommodate the new festival in the special events calendar. The lineup for the festival featured mega bands like Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Nickelback, Shinedown, and an array of supporting acts, promising an electrifying musical extravaganza.
However, several hiccups arose along the way, starting with the cancellation of Mötley Crüe due to lead vocalist Vince Neil’s health issues, which then led to the subsequent withdrawal of Alice in Chains. Despite the setbacks, Rob Zombie was added to the lineup, culminating in a successful sold-out event. Building on the triumph of previous events like Oceans Calling and Country Calling, Boardwalk Rock attracted approximately 55,000 music enthusiasts to Ocean City, featuring 30 national rock bands across multiple stages.
In light of the cancellation of the 2026 festival, the organizers remain optimistic about reviving Boardwalk Rock in 2027 with an even more impressive display of musical talent and entertainment, aiming to surpass all expectations and deliver an unforgettable experience for attendees.
