Popular “Mountain Rescuer” actor opens up about his character’s death on the show: Cause for concern?
Markus Brandl, known for his role as Tobias Herbrechter in the popular ZDF series “Die Bergretter,” made a significant career decision in 2019 by stepping away from the successful show for professional growth. Brandl explained that he had a new agency, was in a good stage of his career, and had received numerous offers that he couldn’t consider before. However, his plans took an unexpected turn due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pandemic disrupted many of Brandl’s acting projects outside of the “Bergretter” universe, leaving him without the anticipated artistic fulfillment. Brandl unexpectedly found himself back on the ZDF set for a “Bergretter” special alongside his colleague Sebastian Ströbel, which reignited his passion for the show. Enjoying the filming process immensely, Brandl eventually made the decision to return permanently in 2022.
Brandl expressed relief and satisfaction with the pivotal decision made by the “Bergretter” series creators. When approached for a comeback, he quickly agreed, realizing that he needed to accept that what he was doing was indeed good. He now feels content with his choice and is happy with his decision to return to the series.
The actor playfully joked about his character’s potential fate, imagining Tobias Herbrechter’s demise on the Gafstein summit at the age of 99 during intercourse. Brandl’s humor and acceptance of the direction of his character’s storyline indicate his peace with returning to the series. Despite stepping away temporarily, Brandl now humorously insists that he is committed to staying with the show, claiming, “Once a Bergretter, always a Bergretter!”
