Jerry Cantrell has been busy for the past few years, supporting his 2024 solo album, “I Want Blood.” As he wraps up his year-long tour at the Corona Capital festival in Mexico City, Cantrell is not just looking back but also focusing on the Seattle Seahawks game and his set. He jokes about his lack of other skills besides music, even after almost 35 years since Alice in Chains released their first album.
Reflecting on his recent appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to honor Soundgarden, Cantrell shares his thoughts on the event and what the future holds. Despite all the chaos of live TV, Cantrell finds it enjoyable to meet with other artists he admires, like Soundgarden and Bad Company, at events like this. He observes that the community coming together to recognize artistic achievements is heartwarming and acknowledges the influence and inspiration these artists have on future generations.
Having experienced the induction of bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden into the Rock Hall, Cantrell comments on the significance of recognition in the industry. While nice to be honored, he believes that being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame does not define or break one’s career. He views the induction process as a beautiful thing that celebrates the hard work and influence of artists over the years.
When asked about new rock bands that excite him, Cantrell admits that his focus has largely been on his own work, making it challenging for him to keep up with current bands. As a result, he doesn’t actively listen to or follow new rock acts unless they catch his attention while performing at festivals or events.
Finally, as a football enthusiast, Cantrell predicts a showdown between the Rams and the Seahawks in the NFC, with one of them making it to the Super Bowl. Despite his successful solo career and continued dedication to music, Cantrell remains a dedicated football fan, looking forward to future endeavors beyond his current musical chapter.
