Kristi Noem makes a demand following shooting in Washington D.C. with politicians reacting in horror
Politicians from both parties and cabinet members of the Donald Trump administration, such as Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, Gavin Newsom, and Chuck Schumer, were left in shock and dismay by the recent shooting incident near the White House in Washington D.C. The incident involved two National Guard members being shot, with one sustaining a gunshot wound to the head. Fortunately, the suspect in custody also sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The shooting took place at the intersection of 17th and H Streets in the northwest part of the city, just two blocks away from the White House. The scene was swiftly secured by law enforcement, with police tape cordoning off the area while emergency vehicles arrived and helicopter blades whirred overhead. Despite the immediate response, the gravity of the situation left many politicians reeling, although JD Vance received criticism for a video posted in the aftermath of the incident.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was among the first to offer prayers and make a demand for unity following the disturbing news. Expressing her deep concern, she urged for prayers for the wounded National Guard members and emphasized the coordination efforts between the Department of Homeland Security and local law enforcement to gather more information regarding the incident. Notably, agents from agencies like the U.S. Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were among those present at the scene, alongside vigilant National Guard troops and helicopters landing on the National Mall.
Various government officials took to social media to voice their condemnation of the violence and express their solidarity with the victims and their families. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent issued a heartfelt message denouncing the act of violence as “utterly disgusting,” stressing the invaluable contribution of the National Guard in maintaining safety. FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino also confirmed their agencies’ involvement in the investigation and urged prayers for the injured servicemen and their families.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer shared his grief over the incident, emphasizing the need for swift action and support for the affected National Guard members. Similarly, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Senator John Fetterman echoed messages of sorrow and solidarity, underscoring the critical importance of standing against any form of violence directed towards the men and women who serve their communities and country with dedication and courage. All the officials highlighted the essential role of the National Guard and pledged unwavering support for the victims and their loved ones during this challenging time.
