“The Shapes” Released as First Single from Upcoming “0.3” EP
Marseille-based group 1003, stylized as I00Ξ, has recently unveiled their latest single “The Shapes” along with an accompanying music video. This track serves as the introductory piece from their upcoming EP titled “0.3”, set to be released on January 30, 2026. The band, known for their avant-garde pop style infused with industrial, electro, and rock elements, is gearing up to follow the success of their previous three-track EP “1.0”, which made its digital debut on Bandcamp in April 2025.
Described as a departure from the conventional verse/chorus structure, “The Shapes” explores a unique musical journey comprised of distinct self-contained sections. The band characterizes the piece as intense and rhythmically dynamic, drawing inspiration from genres like gqom and Afrobeat. Frontman Jessy explains that the song’s flexible arrangement allows for a dynamic live performance, ensuring that each rendition is a one-of-a-kind experience. Collaborating closely, Jessy, along with fellow band members Bengold, David Benzazon, Louise, and Martin Baudu, intricately crafted the track to mirror the emotional depth of its lyrics through its distorted and fragmented sound.
In addition to the release of “The Shapes”, 1003 has unveiled a thought-provoking performance video using footage intended for a future release. Directed by Florian Castells and featuring choreography by Wild Snow White, the video depicts a group of dancers entangled within a confined space, symbolizing the tension between conformity and individuality. The band’s intention behind this visual representation is to depict an inner vitality struggling to express itself amidst darkness, drawing parallels to Plato’s cave allegory by highlighting how light can both reveal and obscure reality.
Having burst onto the Marseille music scene in 2023, 1003 refers to themselves as an “apocalypse from Marseille” and is comprised of vocalist Jessy Bengold, Louise and Martin Baudu on synths and bass, respectively, and David Benzazon on drums. Their distinctive sound, influenced by a blend of pop, alternative rock, art rock, electro rock, post-industrial textures, and electronic vibes unique to Marseille, has garnered attention since the release of their initial single “The Heads” in 2024.
As they prepare to unveil their upcoming EP “0.3”, 1003 promises a six-track journey beginning with “The Shapes”. With their innovative music and visually captivating performances, 1003 continues to push boundaries and captivate audiences with their bold artistic vision.
