Coronatus set to release new album “Dreadful Waters” on January 23, 2026.
German symphonic metal group Coronatus has announced the release of their upcoming studio album, titled “Dreadful Waters”, set to launch on January 23rd, 2026, through Massacre Records. This new album delves into the enigmatic world of the sea, exploring its mysteries, dangers, and mythical powers in a dark and ambitious manner.
Accompanying the album revelation is the debut single and lyric video for “The Maelstrom”, which provides a captivating and intense first look into the album’s maritime theme. Drawing inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe’s work “A Descent Into the Maelstrom”, the song depicts a bold and purposeful descent into a massive turmoil, symbolizing a journey into the unknown with courage and sacrifice. The music weaves together folk elements, dynamic tempo changes, atmospheric breaks, and intense orchestral metal, reflecting the ebb and flow of extreme tides.
“The Maelstrom” sets the tone for “Dreadful Waters” – a symphonic metal odyssey that delves into the deep, mysterious aspects of the ocean. Coronatus chooses water as a symbol for the unseen, dangerous, and awe-inspiring elements of life. In contrast to their previous album, “Atmosphere”, which focused on threats in the sky, “Dreadful Waters” shifts its narrative to the captivating and perilous realms of oceans and seas, rich with myths, dangers, and emotional symbolism.
Musically, Coronatus continues to offer a diverse range of styles, with symphonic metal as their base, interwoven with folk influences, dramatic orchestrations, and experimental nuances that define their unique sound. The album’s songwriting stems from drummer and founder Mats Kurth, as well as vocalist Nemesis and guitarist Harry Zeidler, expanding the album’s creative horizons.
Produced by Markus Stock and Mats Kurth at Klangschmiede Studio E, with Stock overseeing mixing and mastering, “Dreadful Waters” promises a dark and immersive maritime experience. The album’s cover art, crafted by Michael Krebes, visually encapsulates the journey into the unknown, blending mysticism, danger, and the elemental power of water.
The tracklist for the album includes songs like “Through the Brightest Blue”, “To the Reef!”, “The Ship’s Cook”, and “Die Hexe und der Teufel”, each contributing to the overarching theme of the sea’s mystique and danger. Coronatus plans to celebrate the album’s launch with an exclusive release show on January 24th, 2026, in Bryggaren, Västervik, Sweden, where they will perform the new album in its entirety along with fan-favorite tracks from their repertoire.
With a lineup comprising Leni Eitrich, Sabine Prechtel, Nemesis, Tine Jülich, Harry Zeidler, Simon Gutbrod, and Mats Kurth, Coronatus stands ready to take their audience on a dark and immersive journey through “Dreadful Waters”, exploring the untold depths and perils of the ocean through their unique blend of symphonic metal and storytelling.
