New tracks from Jamais Vu, Razones included in 5-way screamo split from different continents
A diverse 5-way screamo split project is set to release today, featuring bands from Malaysia, Peru, the USA, Germany, and Mexico. This project is a unique collaboration brought together by several DIY labels spanning different time zones. Abraxas Distro, Dingleberry Records, Friendly Otter Records, Entes Anómicos, Dead Red Queen Records, Ruido y Pasión Records, New Knee Records, Movimiento Circular de los Árboles Records, Rufen Publishings, and Slow Down Records have all contributed to this innovative endeavor. The split will be available digitally, with a limited 12″ vinyl edition also being produced.
What makes this split special is not just the geographical diversity of the bands involved but also the varied backgrounds each band brings to the project. Coming from scenes of different sizes and states of evolution, the bands offer a glimpse into the complexities of the international screamo and emo scenes. While each band brings its unique sound and perspective to the table, collectively, their songs reflect a shared struggle of individuals trying to find resilience and unity in challenging environments.
Razones para el olvido, hailing from Lima, Peru, shed light on the limited popularity of rock music in their city. Despite the niche nature of their music style, they have witnessed a burgeoning interest in screamo and emo among young musicians in Lima. Collaborating with bands like Ümit and Löri, both with ties to Lima’s DIY scene, has brought a sense of pride and unity among the bands on this split. For Razones para el olvido, the opportunity to share their new tracks alongside these international acts is a significant milestone in their music journey.
Löri’s journey from Lima to Berlin reflects the band’s resilience in the face of challenges. With their original lineup dispersed, the band found new life in Berlin, where they became a part of a vibrant immigrant and expat music scene. The global pandemic caused a hiatus in the local music scene, leading to the emergence of new bands fueled by a common language of English. Löri’s contribution to the split showcases their unique sound and the emotional depth they bring to their music.
Ümit’s involvement in the split project has been met with admiration for their impactful tracks despite being a two-person project. Portia’s last-minute inclusion on the split, recommended by Friendly Otter Records, adds another layer of diversity to the project. The bands involved in this split offer a range of emotional and lyrical perspectives, each contributing to a cohesive yet diverse collection of music.
With tracks touching on themes of grief, survival guilt, and resilience, the 5-way screamo split promises to be a compelling journey through the varied landscapes of the international music scene. As these bands from different corners of the world come together to share their stories and sounds, listeners can expect to be immersed in a rich tapestry of emotions and experiences.
