Providence police recently shared new footage and images of an individual of interest in the tragic shooting incident at Brown University, which resulted in the deaths of two students and the injury of nine others. During a press conference, Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez unveiled the video and still images depicting a figure clad in dark attire captured approximately two hours prior to the shooting. These visuals were recorded within the vicinity of Hope, Benevolent, Cooke, and Manning streets.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has offered a reward of up to $50,000 for any information that could lead to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the perpetrator. The unnamed person of interest is described as a male standing around 5’8″ with a stocky build. As the campus mourns the loss of the students and grapples with the harsh reality of the violence that transpired, a pervasive sense of unease permeates the atmosphere.

Lila Rizvi, a senior at Brown University, expressed her deep sorrow by remarking, “There’s no way to comprehend what’s happened here, and I just feel like the only thing I can do is leave flowers.” Despite extensive investigative efforts, the individual responsible for the tragic events remains at large. Authorities reported that the shooter wielded a 9 mm firearm during the attack.

Reflecting on the ongoing investigation, freshman Fernando Jimenez asserted, “It’s pretty absurd they haven’t caught the guy of interest. The fact that he’s still a person of interest and not like a person they know has done the thing is pretty I guess, upsetting. I’m sure most people are outraged. I personally am kind of indifferent about it. I know stuff like this takes time to find the right person.”

Throughout the day, local and federal investigators meticulously scoured the campus and its surroundings, with a particular emphasis on Waterman Street. Surveillance footage released on Monday captured the person of interest strolling along the mentioned street. Kenneth Dulgarian, owner of Dulgarian Properties, highlighted the distinctive gait of the individual in question, emphasizing the rapid pace at which they moved.

A palpable sense of anguish envelops the community as students, faculty, and residents gather at makeshift memorials to pay their respects, offering flowers and lighting candles in memoriam. Amidst this somber backdrop, Sara Schultz is organizing a community service at S. Stephen’s Episcopal Church to bring the Brown University community together in solidarity.

Mayor Brett Smiley urged individuals with pertinent video or images to come forward by submitting them to the FBI’s Brown University Shooting website or contacting the Providence police’s nonemergency number at 401-272-3121. Furthermore, officials at Brown University encourage anyone present at Barus & Holley on December 12th or December 13th to provide any relevant information that could aid in the investigation. Even seemingly inconsequential details could prove to be crucial in shedding light on the unfolding tragedy.

As the Brown University community grapples with the aftermath of the shooting, the resilience and unity displayed in the face of adversity are poignant reminders of the strength inherent within the campus. Despite the tragedy that befell the community, there remains an underlying sense of hope that such atrocities will never recur, underscoring the resolve and solidarity of Brown University in the wake of this devastating event.
