David Lee Roth named Artist of the Year No. 9 in Rock News
In the spotlight for the 2025 hennemusic Rock News Awards is none other than David Lee Roth, securing the ninth spot among the Top 10 Rock News Artists of the year.
Kicking off the year with a bang, Roth unveiled plans to release a comprehensive box set titled “The Warner Recordings 1985-1994” through Rhino Records in February. This collection showcases his first five solo albums post his Van Halen era, starting with the EP “Crazy From The Heat.” The lead single, a cover of the Beach Boys’ classic “California Girls,” became an instant hit, soaring to the top of the charts in the US. Additionally, music videos from the set enjoyed significant airplay during the MTV heyday, further cementing Roth’s success.
Building on this momentum, Roth’s subsequent albums proved to be equally well-received. The release of “Eat ‘Em And Smile” in 1986 with a band lineup featuring acclaimed guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Greg Bissonette, garnered a spot in the US Top 10. In 1988, the platinum record “Skyscraper” soared back into the Billboard 200 Top 10 with hits like “Just Like Paradise.” Transitioning into the ‘90s, Roth continued his winning streak with the gold-selling “A Little Ain’t Enough” in 1991 and “Your Filthy Little Mouth” in 1994.
In May, Roth thrilled fans by announcing a US tour, marking a significant milestone in his solo career. Following an electrifying performance at the M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, MD – his first full solo concert in over five years – Roth was primed for a summer tour that would kick off on July 22 in Paso Robles, CA and culminate on September 14 in Napa, CA.
Despite hinting at retirement in late 2021, Roth’s enduring passion for music was reignited during a private show in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in May of the following year. This unexpected turn of events signaled a potential shift in his once-declared retirement plans, offering fans hope for more to come from the iconic rock legend.
