Band Of Heathens Releases New Single “No Direction” as 13th Floor’s Song of the Day
The Band of Heathens recently unveiled “No Direction,” their latest single from the upcoming album “Country Sides,” slated for release on February 20, 2026. This new album, self-produced with the help of longtime collaborator Jim Vollentine, is described as a roots rock extravaganza filled with greasy guitar riffs, barroom piano rockers, and soulful swaggering anthems.
Featuring lush harmonies and yearning pedal steel, “No Direction” serves as the opening track of the upcoming album, showcasing a tightly written cowboy lovelorn anthem. According to the band, the song reflects the experiences of being on tour, comparing it to a nomadic journey in search of inspiration and a sense of home. Band member Gordy Quist explained that the song is a love letter to the things left behind in pursuit of a musical dream on the road.
Speaking about the track, Quist expressed, “No Direction represents that initial inspiration when you’re a young band, discovering the power of music and wanting to get out there and just do it.” He emphasized the band’s constant movement juxtaposed with the love and inspiration rooted in their beginnings, serving as the central theme of the song.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary, The Band of Heathens continues to captivate audiences with their fiercely independent spirit and platinum-level success. Straying from the traditional music industry path, the band has maintained their autonomy and creative integrity throughout their career, marking a significant milestone with the platinum certification of their recording “Hurricane.”
Founded two decades ago by Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist, The Band of Heathens began their journey in Austin barrooms and have since evolved into a national powerhouse. Their enduring partnership is likened to iconic duos like Jagger/Richards or Garcia/Weir, built on grit, trust, and an unbreakable musical bond.
Their upcoming album, “Country Sides,” reflects the band’s commitment to self-reliance and life on the margins, highlighting the beauty and authenticity of crafting music with care. Tracks like “Take The Cake,” “She’s The Night,” “Lead Don’t Follow,” and “Pleasing People” exemplify the band’s dedication to creating genuine, introspective music that resonates with listeners.
With a legacy built on artistic integrity and unwavering creative instincts, The Band of Heathens continues to push boundaries and redefine the boundaries of country, soul, folk, and rock & roll. Their self-made journey, marked by over 1 billion streams and nine acclaimed studio albums, has garnered praise from industry publications like Rolling Stone, Relix, and American Songwriter.
As they embark on their US tour, The Band of Heathens will showcase their timeless music and enduring spirit to audiences across the country, celebrating their 20-year journey and the success that comes from following their creative instincts. With “Country Sides” on the horizon, the band is set to deliver yet another chapter in their enduring legacy, reminding fans that sometimes, it’s the sides that steal the show.
