’90s band releases new album, bringing back classic rock and roll vibes’
Extreme, a popular rock band from the 1990s, is making a comeback with a new album set to be released in 2026. Known for their hit song “More Than Words,” the band recently announced that they are working on their seventh studio album. Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt shared the news on social media with a photo of himself in the recording studio, titling the upcoming album “DAY 1 2026 EX7REME.”
This new album will be the band’s first collection of fresh music since their 2023 release, “Six.” “Six,” which was their first album since 2008, reached impressive success by climbing to No. 10 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart. This marked a significant achievement for Extreme, as it was their first top 10 album since 1992, as reported by Blabbermouth.
In a statement regarding “Six” in 2023, Bettencourt expressed his confidence in the album, stating, “I would put our album up against anybody’s album; I feel that confident.” He emphasized the importance of the mythology of rock and roll in listeners connecting with the music, highlighting the band’s unique chemistry and passion. Bettencourt also reflected on the impact of guitar-driven music in today’s landscape, noting that people are craving the raw energy and passion that rock and roll embodies.
While details regarding the release date and title of the new album have not been officially announced, Bettencourt’s social media post suggests that it will be titled “EX7REME.” This naming convention aligns with the band’s previous albums, such as “Extreme II: Pornograffitti” from 1990, “III Sides to Every Story” from 1992, and their most recent release, “Six.”
Extreme, formed in 1985, comprises original members Bettencourt, lead singer Gary Cherone, and bassist Pat Badger, all of whom continue to be part of the band. Rising to fame in the early 1990s with their album “Pornograffiti,” they captivated audiences with a blend of heavy metal and funk in songs like “Decadence Dance,” “Get the Funk Out,” “Hole Hearted,” and the iconic “More Than Words.” Their discography also includes fan-favorite tracks such as “Play with Me,” “Rest in Peace,” “Rise,” and the festive original composition “Christmas Time Again.”
Following a brief hiatus in 1996, the band members pursued individual projects before reuniting in 2007 with drummer Kevin Figueiredo. Since then, they have actively toured and performed, including appearances at significant events like Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell concert with Black Sabbath. Bettencourt’s involvement as music director and guitarist at the 2025 MTV VMAs further solidified their presence in the music industry.
Looking ahead, fans can anticipate Extreme’s return to the stage in 2026 with upcoming tour dates featuring Motley Crue in Upstate New York. The band’s enduring passion for rock and roll, coupled with their timeless music, continues to resonate with audiences who are eager to experience their electrifying performances once again.
