fter a long 15-year wait, fans of punk rock will be pleased to know that Social Distortion, the legendary punk rock band, is gearing up to release their first new album since 2011. Lead singer Mike Ness recently revealed in an interview with KROQ that the highly anticipated album will be hitting the shelves in May 2026. This will mark a significant milestone for the California-based group, as it will be their first full-length album of fresh music in over a decade.

In addition to announcing the album release date, Ness also shared that the lead single from the upcoming record will be dropping later this month. While the band teased fans with a live clip of an unreleased song from their performance at KROQ’s 2025 Almost Acoustic Christmas concert, they have kept the title of the track and its inclusion on the new album a mystery for now.

The journey to this new album has not been without its challenges. Social Distortion’s progress was interrupted when Ness was diagnosed with tonsil cancer back in 2023. Recounting his battle with the disease, Ness expressed the fear he felt at the time, stating, “I was afraid I was not going to live.” The singer-guitarist underwent a series of surgeries that significantly impacted his ability to eat and swallow, requiring him to have a feeding tube post-operation. Despite these setbacks, Ness has made a remarkable recovery and is now back on stage, belting out tunes with a newfound vocal strength that he claims is the best it has ever been.

The news of the upcoming album has undoubtedly brought a wave of excitement not only for fans but for the band members themselves. Social Distortion’s official Facebook page shared their enthusiasm, expressing, “Really excited to be back working again after a serious but short fight w cancer. The record is finished and will be out in spring ‘26, we’ll be playing a handful of new songs (on tour).”

Having emerged from Southern California’s hardcore scene in the late ‘70s, Social Distortion has made a name for themselves with their unique punk rock sound. The band’s self-titled album from 1990 solidified their place in music history, featuring hit tracks like “Story of My Life,” “Ball and Chain,” “Let It Be Me,” and a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” With a musical legacy spanning several decades, fans can anticipate another iconic addition to the band’s discography with their eighth LP on the horizon.

As Social Distortion gears up for the release of their new album and embarks on tour dates, fans old and new are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience the band’s latest musical offering live. With a renewed sense of purpose and vigor following Ness’ health battle, Social Distortion’s return to the spotlight promises to be a triumphant one.
