Video of Minnesota ICE shooting surfaces as public anger escalates nationwide
ehicle in the middle of the road while seemingly recording on his cellphone. Simultaneously, Good’s wife, who was also recording the encounter, walks around the vehicle and approaches Ross. Good calmly acknowledges Ross as he walks by her window, stating, “That’s fine, I’m not mad at you,” with one hand on the steering wheel and the other out the window. Good’s wife, on the other side of the vehicle, identifies them as US citizens and a “former veteran,” urging the officers to stand down and have lunch instead.
As other officers approach, prompting Good to get out of the vehicle, Ross moves to the front of the car. Good briefly reverses before turning the car and driving away, at which point Ross opens fire. The camera footage becomes unstable and briefly pans upwards before showing the vehicle careening away as Good’s SUV collides with other parked cars, prompting someone at the scene to curse.
President Trump’s administration has come to the defense of the ICE agent involved, characterizing Good as a “domestic terrorist” and defending Ross’s use of force as self-defence. Despite the footage not capturing the moment Ross fired the shots or the reason for opening fire, the White House stands by the officer’s actions. Local officials in Minnesota have criticized the federal agencies for sidelining them in the investigation, expressing concerns about the fairness and transparency of the process.
Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis raised questions about the exclusion of state agencies from the investigative process, advocating for proper adherence to the law and protocol. Referring to federal investigators taking possession of Good’s car and shell casings, Frey emphasized the need for a thorough and unbiased investigation. Good’s wife, Becca Good, emphasized the peaceful intent of their presence at the scene and highlighted the disproportionate response by law enforcement, who came armed with guns while they carried whistles.
The shooting in Minneapolis and a separate incident in Portland, Oregon, involving the Border Patrol, have incited widespread protests and condemnation of immigration enforcement strategies in the US. Demonstrators have gathered at various federal locations across the country to denounce the use of force by ICE personnel and to demand greater accountability and oversight. Numerous planned protests around the nation are set to take place to address the growing concerns over immigration enforcement practices.
