y “Summoning the Slayer” released in 2022, is still present in Temple Of Void’s upcoming fifth studio album. The band, now consisting of guitarist Alex Awn, drummer Jason Pearce, vocalist/guitarist Mike Erdody, and bassist Justin Malek, is expanding their sound to include a wider dynamic range. This quartet from Michigan is incorporating non-metal influences such as grunge and post-punk into their traditionally brutal music style.

Singles like “The Crawl” and “Soulburn” showcase the evolving sound of Temple Of Void. The band’s evolution is evident in their latest album, offering a heavier and more diverse experience than their previous works. From the intense opener “Poison Icon” to the formidable track “The Twin Stranger,” “The Crawl” showcases Temple Of Void’s growth as a band, pushing the boundaries of death metal.

Lyrically, vocalist Mike Erdody builds on the psychological and fear themes explored in “Summoning the Slayer,” creating an overall allegory about life, choices, and consequences in “The Crawl.” The album delves into the complexities of the human condition, exploring themes of fear, psychological horror, and introspection. Each track, including “The Twin Stranger,” inspired by the concept of being pursued by one’s doppelganger, and “Godless Cynic,” drawing from a sci-fi story by Harlan Ellison, delves into different aspects of the human experience.

“The Crawl” was recorded in a single frigid week in January at Kurt Ballou’s GodCity Studio in Salem, MA, to capture a raw and spontaneous sound. Collaborating with engineer Zach Weeks, Temple Of Void aimed for a more human feel to the record, resulting in raw and edgy guitar and bass tones, paired with an upfront drum sound. Mastering by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Mastering Studio in Portland, OR, further enhanced the album’s intensity and depth.

With “The Crawl,” Temple Of Void continues to evolve their sound, crafting an intense, dissonant, and heavy album that resonates with metal fans. Featuring striking cover art by Travis Smith, the new album promises to captivate listeners, plunging them into a realm of darkness and mystery. Prepare to embark on a journey into the depths of Temple Of Void’s music with “The Crawl.”
