The Black Crowes reveal organic process for creating new album
The Black Crowes are gearing up to release new music, and it’s not just a single track. Chris Robinson, a member of the long-running classic rock band, has revealed that they have a full album of material in the works. Set to drop on March 13, the album, titled “A Pound of Feathers,” will serve as the band’s 10th studio album and their first release since 2024.
Chris Robinson shared that the band took a unique approach to creating this album, completing the recording process in just eight to ten days. He emphasized that they tapped into the energy and inspiration from their previous record, referring to the new album as a “natural progression.” The band members embraced experimentation, writing based on their instincts and emotions in the moment. Chris highlighted his brother Rich’s spontaneous contributions, describing them as the best work Rich has ever done.
Rich Robinson also expressed his perspective on the significance of the upcoming album for the band. He shared that the album represents a transformative phase for them, as they returned to their musical roots and rediscovered the synergy in their collaboration. Rich described the creative process as igniting a fire within them, resulting in music that is raw, powerful, and true to their musical essence.
The Black Crowes reunited in 2019 and embarked on a global tour from 2021 to 2022 to celebrate the anniversary of their debut album, “Shake Your Money Maker.” Their traditional approach to music-making has been praised by critics in the past, with Rolling Stone commending the debut record for its ability to deliver both infectious boogie and moments of profound insight.
In a nod to their enduring success, Billboard reported in March 2021 that the 30th-anniversary edition of “Shake Your Money Maker” had re-entered the charts, reaching No. 9 on the Top Album Sales chart and No. 110 on the Billboard 200. The band’s sustained popularity and ability to connect with audiences over the years have solidified their status as iconic figures in the rock music scene.
As the release date for “A Pound of Feathers” approaches, fans can anticipate a creative evolution from The Black Crowes, with music that reflects their deep-rooted musical heritage while pushing the boundaries of their sound. The album is poised to resonate with both longtime followers of the band and new listeners, showcasing the enduring spirit and artistic vision of this legendary rock group.
