GUTSLIT Releases Intense New Single “I, Berzerker”
Gutslit, the formidable force of extreme metal from Mumbai, India, has roared back into action with the release of their scorching new single, “I, Berzerker.” This single marks their first release since 2023’s Carnal and signifies the beginning of a new chapter in the band’s journey. Released independently, “I, Berzerker” solidifies Gutslit’s reputation as one of the most unrelenting and intense forces in contemporary death metal.
“I, Berzerker” serves as a powerful declaration of intent. It is a defiant response to the notion that bands should soften or mellow with age, showcasing Gutslit at their most primal and focused. The track is characterized by blistering riffs, punishing rhythms, and guttural vocals, blending surgical precision with unbridled brutality.
Inspired by the myth of the Berzerker, a warrior consumed by battle rage, the song reinterprets this legend as a metaphor for creative freedom. The lyrics delve into the concepts of instinct, release, and complete immersion in the act of creation, portraying violence and fury as symbols of purpose, expression, and identity rather than mere destruction.
Moreover, “I, Berzerker” signifies a pivotal moment for Gutslit’s lineup. The band now operates as a five-piece, featuring a dual-guitar assault by Ishwar Hariharan and Aditya Swaminathan. This addition brings new melodic depth and dynamic interplay to Gutslit’s signature ferocity. The core lineup remains formidable, with Aditya Barve on vocals, Gurdip Singh Narang on bass, and Aaron Pinto on drums delivering their characteristic intensity.
The production of “I, Berzerker” was a collaborative effort by the band, with drums recorded at Gray Spark Studio and guitars and bass tracked at Altar Studio. Engineering was overseen by Saurabh Lodha and Ashwin Shriyan, contributing to the track’s overall raw energy and intensity.
The mixing and mastering of the single were handled by Mendel Bij de Liej (Ex-Aborted), while the striking single artwork was created by drummer Aaron Pinto under his visual alias Kidsquidy. This attention to detail and creative collaboration underscores the band’s commitment to delivering a visceral and impactful musical experience.
With “I, Berzerker,” Gutslit cements their position as a dominant force in the realm of extreme metal. This new single showcases their unwavering dedication to pushing boundaries, embracing creative freedom, and delivering uncompromising and powerful music that resonates with fans of the genre.
