Charleston’s beloved block party is making its comeback next month, promising a day filled with savory barbecue, lively music, and support for local charities. Rock the Block is scheduled for February 21, with proceeds going towards Hogs for the Cause and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston. The event will take place right on the street in front of Home Team BBQ’s Downtown Charleston establishment.

The brainchild of Aaron “Fiery Ron” Siegel and Taylor Garrigan from Home Team BBQ, Rock the Block originated from the success of their 10th-anniversary celebration. The duo initially threw a bash on the streets after opening their downtown location, which eventually evolved into a larger charity affair. “Rock the Block was born out of our 10th-anniversary party,” shared one of the organizers. “The following year, we decided to host a charity event and called it Rock the Block. It’s about bands, delectable food, fun times, and raising funds for the Ronald McDonald House and Hogs for the Cause.”

The event will feature a lineup of renowned local restaurants and chefs, including Swig and Swine, Fox Brothers, Beautiful South, and Heavy Burger, among others. According to the organizers, many other esteemed chefs will be showcasing their culinary prowess at the event. “It’s not only for a noble cause but also a fantastic opportunity for us to gather our friends, cook, and contribute positively to the community and families in need,” explained one organizer. “We truly enjoy ourselves while making a difference. It’s not just the attendees who have a great time; we have a blast too.”

Rock the Block will unfold along Williman Street, culminating in a stage at the far end. The layout is described as a “shotgun” style, with the crowd stretching from the entrance to the stage, creating an electric atmosphere. The event stands in solidarity with two causes dear to the organizers’ hearts. Hogs for the Cause aids families with children battling pediatric brain cancer, while the Ronald McDonald House provides shelter to families during their children’s medical treatments. “Our motivation stems from witnessing the challenges families and children face during tough times and illnesses, and we simply want to ensure they have some comfort amidst their struggles,” expressed one organizer.

During the event, the restaurant will remain open, offering various settings such as the lively courtyard, VIP area, indoor bar, and the bustling street festivities. Tickets for Rock the Block are priced at $30 in advance and $35 on the day of the event. To secure a spot, organizers advise purchasing tickets beforehand through the restaurant’s website. Additionally, sponsorship opportunities are still open, with one month left until the event. Attendees can expect QR codes distributed throughout the event for convenient donation opportunities.
