Psychedelic garage rocker Kyle Thomas, known by his stage name King Tuff, is set to release a new album this spring titled MOO. Following his 2023 album Smalltown Stardust, Thomas returned to his hometown of Burlington, Vermont, to create this latest record, embracing a more stripped-down approach this time around. Despite his return to basics, Thomas has always maintained an authentic sound throughout his career.

According to statements from a recent press release, Thomas recorded MOO using the same Tascam 388 machine he utilized for his 2013 debut album, King Tuff Was Dead. Additionally, each copy of the album will include The Daily Moo, a newspaper created by Thomas himself. In a bold statement that almost reads like a manifesto, Thomas expressed his attitude towards imperfections in music, saying, “I stopped caring if there were mistakes. There’s not enough mistakes. I wish it sounded even worse.” He emphasized that rock & roll should evoke a raw, unpolished feel akin to emerging from a dingy trashcan or crypt, devoid of artificial enhancements or perfection.

The album’s lead single and opening track, “Twisted On The Train,” is a lively, energetic rock song detailing a humorous encounter with being excessively high on an Amtrak observation car. Thomas personally directed the accompanying black-and-white music video for the track, showcasing his hands-on approach to the creative process. Reflecting on the song’s creation, Thomas shared his spontaneous method of writing and recording within a few short hours, contrasting the meticulous and time-consuming digital production methods he had previously employed. He described the experience as liberating and joyful, akin to painting or collaging, and emphasized the authenticity and vitality captured on tape.

In addition to the new single and album announcement, King Tuff has revealed plans for a North American tour set to kick off in the spring. Fans can anticipate a string of lively performances across various cities, showcasing songs from MOO as well as King Tuff’s existing discography. With a diverse tracklist featuring titles such as “Stairway To Nowhere,” “Invisible Ink,” and “Delusions,” the album promises a vibrant and eclectic listening experience for fans of King Tuff’s distinctive sound.

MOO is slated for release on March 27 via Kyle Thomas’ own MUP Records, distributed by Thirty Tigers. Music enthusiasts can pre-order the album to secure their copy and immerse themselves in King Tuff’s latest musical venture. Don’t miss the chance to catch King Tuff live in concert and witness the raw energy and infectious spirit of his performances firsthand.
