30 years after the passing of Jeff Buckley, the musician has made a notable debut on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time. His track “Lover, You Should Have Come Over,” extracted from his inaugural album “Grace” released in 1994, has triumphantly entered the rankings at #97. Surprisingly, the song was never officially launched as a single, yet it managed to accumulate an impressive 3.8 million streams within the confines of January 16-22, allowing it to secure a spot on the chart. TikTok’s incorporation of the track is credited for this surge in streaming numbers.

Although this achievement marks the very first time that Buckley’s song has appeared on the Hot 100, it had already graced the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart in April, positioning itself at #22. A second resurgence on the chart occurred in July, right before the release of “It’s Never Over,” a documentary directed by Amy Berg that delves into the life and work of the late singer. Presently, “Lover, You Should Have Come Over” maintains a prominent position at #13 on that chart.

A tragic turn of events took place in 1997 resulting in Buckley’s untimely demise at the age of 30, when he perished by drowning after being swept away in the chilling waters of the Wolf River Harbor, a distributary of the mighty Mississippi River. Despite his tragic end almost three decades ago, his musical legacy continues to captivate audiences around the world, as evidenced by the recent achievement of having his song etched into the prestigious annals of the Hot 100.

Jeff Buckley’s musical oeuvre has transcended time and continues to resonate with listeners globally, portraying an everlasting impact that transcends the confines of mortality. His ethereal vocals and soul-stirring melodies have left an indelible mark on the music industry, solidifying his place as an icon in the realm of classic rock. The resurgence of “Lover, You Should Have Come Over” on the Hot 100 serves as a poignant reminder of Buckley’s enduring legacy and a testament to the timeless allure of his music.
