Manchester Orchestra unveils live album from intimate London performances, releases new music video
Indie rock band Manchester Orchestra is set to release a live album titled “Union Chapel, London, England” on March 20 through Loma Vista. The album was recorded over three nights in the fall of 2023 and features stripped-down versions of songs from the band’s extensive catalog, totaling 21 tracks. The band’s primary duo, Andy Hull and Robert McDowell, delivered intimate renditions of their songs during these performances in one of London’s historic venues, Union Chapel. The newly released singles from the album, “The Silence” and “The Grocery” (originally from 2017’s “A Black Mile To The Surface”), are accompanied by beautifully shot black-and-white music videos filmed in and around the majestic Union Chapel.
Speaking about the significance of London in the band’s journey, Andy Hull mentions how the city has been a pivotal part of Manchester Orchestra’s narrative right from the band’s birth. Having played at legendary venues like The Barfly and The Water Rats almost two decades ago, London holds a special place in their musical evolution. The three-night residency at the iconic Union Chapel was a transformative experience for the band, who revisited songs from their entire career, immersing themselves in the healing and cathartic performance. Hull believes that the recordings from those special nights truthfully capture the ambiance of the performance and the union of past, present, and future that resonated throughout the chapel.
The tracklist of the upcoming live album includes familiar favorites like “I Know How To Speak,” “The Gold,” “Simple Math,” and “My Backwards Walk,” among others. The album is already available for pre-order, offering fans a chance to own it on translucent sea blue vinyl. In addition to the live album release, Andy Hull is gearing up for a solo tour starting March 20 with performances in various cities across the United States, including Birmingham, Charleston, New York, Boston, Chicago, and more.
