Godsticks finally release highly anticipated new studio album VOiD, featuring new single “M.I.A.”
om the noise – a retreat into a personal void.
Godsticks have unveiled the long-anticipated debut single from their seventh studio album, VOiD. The track, entitled “M.I.A.,” offers listeners a preview of the band’s darkest, most intense work to date. Accompanying the single is a new music video created by Martin Holmes. Fans can look forward to the album’s release on March 27th.
Frontman and primary songwriter, Darran Charles, delves into the inspiration behind the new single. He shares his ongoing fascination with the internal voice that many grapple with, known as the “inner critic” or “inner monologue.” Charles humorously describes his inner voice as relentless, constantly bombarding him with negative thoughts and criticisms. He paints a vivid picture of this voice as a persistent presence, even disturbing his sleep in the wee hours of the morning with reminders of past embarrassments.
In “M.I.A.,” Godsticks explore the struggle against this self-critical inner voice. Charles candidly expresses his desire to physically confront and silence this negative entity that questions his worth as a musician and revisits past mistakes. The band found themselves challenged during the creation of the song, with the guitar and drum parts proving particularly grueling. Despite doubts that arose during the process, Godsticks emerged victorious, ultimately triumphing over their creative struggles.
Thematically, VOiD delves into a world marked by division, rigid ideologies, and a lack of nuance. The album captures a sense of disillusionment with societal trends, portraying a deliberate retreat into a personal abyss. As Godsticks navigate these thematic waters, their music serves as a poignant reflection of the complexities and challenges inherent in modern existence.
Fans can prepare for the release of VOiD by pre-ordering the album, which includes ten tracks that promise to showcase Godsticks’ evolution as a band. With songs like “Hold Back,” “Watch It Burn,” and “Ruthless Coward,” this album is poised to be a compelling exploration of the band’s musical and lyrical depths.
In addition to the album release, Godsticks are gearing up for a series of live performances across the UK. The band will be taking the stage in various cities, including London, Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham, Swansea, Dundee, Edinburgh, Bristol, Southampton, and Oldham. These live shows offer fans a chance to experience Godsticks’ dynamic sound in person, a testament to their enduring presence in the progressive rock scene.
