With Tool being renowned for their visually stunning live performances, fans have been eagerly anticipating the possibility of the band playing at the Sphere in Las Vegas. In a recent interview with the Spiral Out Network, Danny Carey, the highly acclaimed drummer of Tool, revealed that discussions about making this dream a reality have already begun.

Carey expressed his desire to combine this potential mini-residency with the release of a new Tool album. Fans of the band are all too familiar with the extended gaps between Tool’s album releases, which has been a point of frustration for many. However, Carey hinted at a more optimistic timeline for the band’s next album following their 2019 chart-topping comeback album, “Fear Inoculum,” which arrived after a 13-year wait.

Although initially in favor of a quick follow-up to “Fear Inoculum,” Carey’s perspective has shifted over time. In the recent interview, he suggested that Tool’s sixth studio album may see the light of day in 2027, stating, “[We’re] working on a lot of new Tool songs now, hopefully 2027, that’s the goal.”

Recognizing Tool’s reputation as a band that places great emphasis on their visual presentation during live shows, Carey acknowledged that performing at the Sphere is an enticing prospect for the band. He confirmed that discussions with the venue are underway, stating, “We’re hoping when we release the new record, maybe do a stint at the Sphere, ’cause I think we’re the perfect band for that. We’ve been talking to those guys.”

However, Carey also highlighted the significant preparation and cost involved in staging performances at the Sphere, noting that it may take several shows before breaking even financially. Despite these challenges, he expressed excitement about the potential opportunity and described the venue as “incredible,” recounting a tour where he nearly experienced vertigo due to the venue’s grandeur.

In addition to discussing Tool’s future plans, Carey participated in the interview to promote his new soundtrack collaboration for the recently released Gore Verbinski-directed sci-fi/comedy, “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.” The interview also captured footage of Carey joining a marching band in Las Vegas as part of a premiere event for the film.

As fans eagerly await the release of Tool’s new album and the possibility of a residency at the Sphere, discussions and preparations are already underway to bring these exciting prospects to fruition. Tool enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing the band’s visually captivating live performances in a new and impressive setting in the near future.
