Charley Crockett Unveils 20-Track Album “Age of the Ram”
Charley Crockett has recently announced the completion of his Sagebrush Trilogy with the upcoming release of his new album “Age of the Ram” on April 3rd via Island Records. This album, produced by Crockett and Shooter Jennings just like the previous two in the trilogy, will feature a total of 20 tracks. Among these tracks are five designated as “themes,” with three focusing on the character of Billy McLane, the central figure of the trilogy, and two named “Rancho Deluxe.” Some of these tracks, characterized by their shorter run times, are likely to serve as recurring instrumental motifs to enhance the thematic and cinematic qualities of the album.
Several of the tracks on this new album are anticipated to resonate with a Western aesthetic, suggested by titles like “Lonesome Dove,” “I Shot Jesse James,” “Fastest Gun Alive,” and “Powder River.” Fans are intrigued by the track “Low Down Freedom” and speculate whether it is the same song previously recorded by Waylon Jennings and written by Billy Joe Shaver. Charley Crockett himself has shared insights into the thematic development of the Sagebrush Trilogy, illustrating how each album represents a different facet of a man navigating his way through life. “Lonesome Drifter” portrays a nomadic wanderer in search of purpose, while “Dollar A Day” delves into the struggles and temptations of a rustler. Now, with “Age of the Ram,” Crockett aims to narrate the story of an outlaw who unexpectedly becomes a symbol of legend.
Despite the absence of a detailed press release, Charley Crockett unveiled the debut single from the album, “Kentucky Too Long,” accompanied by a lyric video. Crafted with contributions from his touring band The Blue Drifters, the song and album are imbued with Crockett’s signature sound and style. Fans can also pre-order and pre-save “Age of the Ram” ahead of its official release for a firsthand experience of Crockett’s musical storytelling.
