MARC BROUSSARD TAKES A CHANCE WITH HIS FIRST ALL…
Renowned soul singer Marc Broussard is set to release his first full album of original blues songs, titled Chance Worth Taking, on April 17th under Joe Bonamassa’s KTBA Records. Produced by Bonamassa, Josh Smith, and Calvin Turner, this 14-track collection sees Broussard teaming up once again with blues icon Joe Bonamassa, who lends his masterful guitar skills to ten tracks, including three co-written songs. Joining them is Josh Smith, contributing to and co-writing four tracks, alongside Calvin Turner, who co-wrote ten original songs and helped with the album’s lush string and horn arrangements.
The album’s lead singles, “No More” and “Fever,” offer a glimpse into the diverse range of the album. “No More” is a sweeping blues ballad showcasing Broussard’s emotive vocals and Bonamassa’s soaring guitar, while “Fever” brings a modern roadhouse groove with funky rhythm guitars, punchy horns, and Smith’s dynamic leads. These songs highlight the fusion of blistering guitar work with Broussard’s unique vocal style.
Despite the shift in style, Chance Worth Taking retains Broussard’s signature “bayou soul” sound, blending gritty shuffles, soulful blues, horn-driven rock, and funky Mardi Gras-infused tracks. The album’s inception came from Turner’s proposal for an original blues project, leading Broussard to craft lyrics with fervor, resulting in a collection of songs refined in the studio with Bonamassa.
Broussard acknowledges his deeper dive into the blues genre, noting the influence and guidance provided by Bonamassa and Smith during the recording process. The album showcases a sense of exploration and experimentation, from big-band arrangements to soulful ballads, underscored by Broussard’s visceral vocals and Bonamassa’s exceptional guitar work.
Chance Worth Taking is positioned as a pivotal moment in Broussard’s career, signaling a new chapter of artistic growth and creativity. Fans can expect a diverse palette of emotions and styles on the album, from energetic blues-rock tracks to soulful ballads, culminating in a vibrant homage to New Orleans with the track “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler,” co-written with Trombone Shorty.
Following the success of their previous collaboration, SOS 4 Blues for Your Soul, Broussard and Bonamassa continue to build on their musical synergy with Chance Worth Taking. The album invites listeners on a journey through blues and soul classics, showcasing the depth of Broussard’s artistry and Bonamassa’s instrumental prowess.
