Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Central Park Square parking lot off Central Avenue.

The primary goal of the Arrive Alive Tour® is to provide drivers with the necessary knowledge and resources to develop safe driving habits that will last a lifetime. This initiative utilizes a cutting-edge simulator that enables participants to experience driving scenarios while distracted, under the influence of alcohol, or impaired by drugs. Despite being in a stationary vehicle and sober, participants will encounter the real-life risks associated with these behaviors without facing any actual consequences.

According to DWI Program Coordinator Lauren Tomko, the implementation of interactive and life-saving programs like the Arrive Alive Tour® in Los Alamos is crucial for reducing incidents of impaired and distracted driving. By raising awareness and educating the community, the aim is to make the roads safer for everyone who utilizes them.

In New Mexico, issues related to impaired and distracted driving are prevalent. The state is actively engaged in efforts to address this problem through various community programs designed to minimize the number of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Notably, statistics reveal that young drivers between the ages of 16 and 20 are 17 times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash when their blood alcohol content reaches 0.08% compared to when they are sober. Additionally, driver distraction accounts for over 58% of crashes involving teenagers.

The Arrive Alive Tour® in Los Alamos is made possible through the sponsorship of the Los Alamos County DWI Program. For individuals seeking further information or with inquiries about the event, please reach out to Nick Pitts at 888-436-3394 or Lauren Tomko at 505-662-8099.

Together, by encouraging responsible driving practices one driver and one choice at a time, we can collectively make a positive difference in ensuring road safety for all.
