During a recent solo performance at the L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, LA, Gene Simmons surprised fans by playing two Kiss songs, “Strange Ways” and “Rocket Ride,” which were written and originally sung by Ace Frehley. These songs were performed for the first time by Simmons, who had previously been critical of Frehley and Peter Criss. Despite his past remarks, Simmons decided to include these songs in his setlist, alongside other classic tracks like “Cold Gin” and “Parasite.”

Simmons’ decision to play Frehley’s songs prompted mixed reactions from fans. Last year, he faced backlash after suggesting that Frehley’s death was due to his own bad decisions. Unfortunately, Frehley passed away shortly after following a fall at his studio.

The full setlist for Simmons’ performance included a mix of classic Kiss songs like “Deuce,” “Shout It Out Loud,” and “Rock and Roll All Nite.” Notably, “Strange Ways” and “Rocket Ride” made their live debut during this show, adding a new dimension to Simmons’ performance. Despite the controversy surrounding his comments about his former bandmates, Simmons continues to draw crowds with his energetic live performances.

In addition to his recent show, Simmons is set to join the Rock Legends Cruise XIII from Fort Lauderdale to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, from February 23 to 27. Following this, he has a concert scheduled at Bayside Stadium at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida, on February 28. Simmons remains the only original member of Kiss currently touring, as Paul Stanley has not performed live since the band’s conclusion in 2023, and Peter Criss has been absent from the tour scene for decades, although he recently released a new solo album.

Kiss, one of the most iconic rock bands of all time, was formed in 1973 in New York City by Simmons, Frehley, Criss, and Stanley. Over the past 50 years, the band has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide, with Simmons and Stanley being the only constant members throughout its history.

Despite the ups and downs of the band’s career, Simmons’ dedication to keeping the spirit of Kiss alive through his performances and continued presence in the music industry is a testament to the enduring legacy of one of rock’s most influential bands. As Simmons continues to thrill audiences with his live shows, fans can expect more surprises and memorable moments from this legendary rocker.
