The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled its list of nominees for the class of 2026, showcasing a new wave of potential inductees. Among the 17 nominees, ten are first-time hopefuls, including notable names such as Phil Collins, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, and the late Jeff Buckley. Additionally, returning contenders like the Black Crowes and Billy Idol aim for induction once again, while iconic bands like Iron Maiden, Oasis, and Joy Division/New Order receive their third nominations.

Phil Collins, already a Rock Hall inductee in 2010 as part of Genesis, could potentially secure a second spot in the Hall. The diverse batch of nominees also features Wu-Tang Clan, Lauryn Hill, New Edition, Luther Vandross, and pop sensations Pink and Shakira. Mariah Carey makes her third appearance on the ballot, while Sade, the British chanteuse, returns for her second shot at induction.

The selection process involves a vote by the Rock Hall’s 1,200-strong community comprising artists, journalists, historians, and industry players. Apart from this, fans can cast their votes on the Rock Hall’s website or kiosks at the museum in Cleveland to contribute to an additional ballot. The list of 2026 Performer inductees will be announced in April, along with honorees in categories like Musical Influence and Musical Excellence.

This year’s induction ceremony, slated for the fall, remains without a confirmed date or location at present. Reflecting on the nominees, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chair John Sykes highlighted the diverse array of talented artists on the list, acknowledging the evolving nature and enduring impact of rock ‘n’ roll on youth culture.

Eligibility for Rock Hall nomination kicks in 25 years after a performer’s debut commercial release. Shakira takes the spotlight this year as the sole artist with a first recording, “Magia,” released in 1991. The ever-expanding list of Rock Hall snubs continues, with notable absentees from the 2025 ballot including Phish, Gram Parsons, and the Mexican rock band Mana.

Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame signifies the highest honor in the music industry. The 2026 class awaits their moment in the spotlight, set against the backdrop of a vibrant and dynamic rock ‘n’ roll legacy. Look out for the announcement of the inductees and details about the upcoming ceremony in the coming months.
