Bookstore in Glasgow shopping center to offer free books in honor of World Book Day

In celebration of World Book Day, Scotland’s inaugural free bookshop is urging the public to reconnect with the pleasures of reading while supporting literacy efforts. Located within Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow city center, GET Free Books is part of the Global Educational Trust, a charity committed to advancing literacy by providing free access to books through a network of over 20 bookstores across the UK.

Established in June 2025, the Glasgow branch of GET Free Books boasts an extensive selection of pre-owned books spanning various genres for visitors to peruse. Individuals are encouraged to select up to three books at no cost, fostering a love for reading without financial constraints.

To mark World Book Day on March 5th, GET Free Books is encouraging individuals to visit the store, select a complimentary book, and experience the life-changing impact of reading. By eliminating financial obstacles, this initiative ensures that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can engage with and enjoy books.

In addition to receiving books, the charity invites the local community to contribute unwanted books to help maintain the store’s inventory and keep stories circulating. Junaid Rahim, a Trustee at GET Free Books, emphasized the transformative nature of books, affirming their ability to inspire, educate, and unite individuals. Visitors are urged to not only take a book but also consider donating one to extend the joy of reading to others.

Buchanan Galleries is proud to support Scotland’s first GET Free Books shop, ensuring that books remain accessible to all individuals, regardless of financial restrictions.
