Musician Matt Angell releases new single titled “Dust”
Matt Angell is set to take the stage as he debuts his retrospective double album ‘Dust’. This collection of songs, some dating back to 1991, showcases the musical journey and evolution of this talented singer-songwriter. Hailing from the rugged Pilbara region of Western Australia, Angell’s musical career took root when an old guitar serendipitously came into his possession. Known for his soul-stirring melodies and poignant lyrics, Angell has a way of captivating audiences whether he’s performing on intimate stages or large festival grounds.
With a poetic and unadorned approach, Angell delves into the complexities of life and explores themes of love, loss, and self-discovery through his music. The raw and stripped-back acoustic tracks from the first part of ‘Dust’ will be featured in his opening set, showcasing the true essence of his soul and the emotional depth of this collection.
Following Angell’s performance, Dave Ferguson, a musician hailing from Karratha and Melbourne, will take to the stage. Ferguson’s musical journey has taken him from the shores of Karratha to the bustling streets of London and finally to the creative hub of Melbourne. Known for his involvement in shaping Melbourne’s underground heavy music scene with his band Fuck the Fitzroy Doom Scene, Ferguson has earned a dedicated following for his distinctive sound. Influenced by a range of artists from Nick Drake to Black Sabbath, Ferguson’s 2024 solo album ‘In My Time’ unveils a more introspective and acoustic side to his musical expression, stripping away the layers of noise to reveal the heart behind the heaviness.
The energy of the evening will be cranked up as Angell is joined on stage by his longtime bandmates, Brad Walther and Dj Davy, to present the electric side of ‘Dust’ in the third part of the show. This portion will showcase Angell’s versatility and musical range, covering genres from blues and country to rock, demonstrating that everything ultimately returns to ‘Dust’.
This unforgettable evening of music will take place at Lyric’s Underground in Maylands on May 31st, 2026. The venue mode for the show is General Admission, with a mix of unreserved seating and standing room.
