James Lomenzo doesn’t completely dismiss possibility of more Megadeth music
Megadeth has recently announced their self-titled album and global farewell tour set for 2026, signaling the end of their impressive career. However, according to bassist James LoMenzo, the band’s journey may not be entirely over just yet.
In a recent interview with Loud And Proud Italy, LoMenzo shared that although the band intends for this current phase to serve as a definitive closing chapter, the possibility of creating new music down the line remains open. He highlighted how legendary bands would often hit the road, rent out a studio, and start recording, eventually accumulating enough material for a partial album. LoMenzo emphasized that this practice is entirely feasible for Megadeth as well.
While there have been no formal discussions about creating more music post-farewell campaign, LoMenzo stressed that there are no legal or creative barriers preventing the band from doing so. Despite the potential for new music in the future, LoMenzo underscored that the farewell tour and album are not merely a marketing ploy, unlike past “final tours” by other famous bands.
He highlighted that band frontman Dave Mustaine is committed to ensuring the authenticity of this farewell. LoMenzo mentioned, “Dave is adamant about this; we’re not doing this to cash in or cash out. We’re doing this to be sincere and to really bring the legacy to its closure.” This dedication to authenticity also influenced the decision to title the record “Megadeth,” symbolizing the culmination of the band’s journey.
The idea of new music after the farewell tour is not off the table, but for now, the focus is on giving the band a dignified send-off. The band’s commitment to closing this chapter genuinely resonates through their decision to embark on a farewell tour and release a self-titled album. While Megadeth fans may be bidding farewell to a legendary chapter in heavy metal history, the music industry does hold the possibility for a future surprise from this iconic band.
