Bon Jovi Biopic Being Developed by Universal
Universal Pictures has announced plans to develop a definitive biopic on the renowned Grammy Award-winning band, Bon Jovi. The screenplay for the film will be penned by Cody Brotter, a writer recognized on the Black List. Since their formation in 1983, Bon Jovi has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than three decades. The band’s accolades include induction into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. With over 130 million albums sold globally, a vast catalog of popular anthems, countless performances in over 50 countries for more than 35 million enthusiastic fans, and ticket sales exceeding $1 billion in the last ten years alone, Bon Jovi has solidified its position as one of the most enduring rock acts in history.
Producer Kevin J. Walsh, alongside Religion of Sports’ Gotham Chopra, will oversee the project. Jacqueline Garell, Director of Production Development at Universal Pictures, will manage the development process for the biopic.
Universal Pictures has a proven track record of success with musical biopics centered around influential musicians. Films like “Straight Outta Compton,” which explored the journey of N.W.A., and “8 Mile,” starring Eminem, have showcased the studio’s ability to capture the essence of musical legends on screen. Brotter, the screenwriter for the Bon Jovi biopic, has also worked on other notable projects, such as the crypto thriller “Killing Satoshi” for Doug Liman and an undisclosed music biopic for Mike Judge. His script “Drudge” has received recognition on the Black List.
